A podcast where hosted by Kelly Lynn Jones of LPP and Andrew Martin Scott, co-owner of Needles and Pens explore how local artist entrepreneurs are re-inventing the American Dream.

Oakland-based Atelier Dion has been in operation for less than 2 years, but has already built up an impressive list of clients and is on its way to becoming a successful ceramics production house. Owners Jay and Rie Dion are a husband and wife duo who met in 2008 while attending graduate school at California College of the Arts. After graduation, the couple realized they could use their skills as ceramic artists to create a business focused on custom fabrication. We visited the Dions in their West Oakland studio where we discussed the ins and outs of starting a business and the sacrifices and compromises they have made to get their vision off the ground.

This book is inspired by the delightful lives of house cats. Relaxing, boxing, dreaming, showering, drinking hot milk: these are just a few of the things that house cats do; maybe not when you’re around, but when you leave; maybe this is a book about the hidden lives of house cats. Printed on 30% recycled cream colored paper, this book includes eleven new cat illustrations by Kaori Mitsushima.

It is an edition of 100, all hand numbered and signed, 16 Pages, 5.38 × 8.5 inches, Black & White, Self-published in April 2013, and printed & hand-bound locally in Oberlin, Ohio.

Henry finally finished the first personal project of the year. It’s a zine and print package about a pretend statistical analysis he did to kill some time in 2010. It’s taken him a couple of years to get round to collecting all the raw material he collected into this 32 pages zine. He limited the run to 20 and he tried to make it as nice as possible. He is pleased with it. In some ways it’s the most complex personal project He has made in the real world...
