by Sonya Gallardo
My work is inspired from the personal. As I go through the creative process the work becomes less about me and opens up to more universal themes. I leave traces of the personal by inserting subtle details that pertain to my life. Love, loss, memory and nostalgia are themes in my work.
In my latest collection I reflected on romantic love. I thought about past relationships, sketching out distinct moments and listing what I’d found important. Asking what made these relationships work sent me on a hunt for information on love. Each piece in this project consists of a pairing of two parts and what they represent reflects some of my ideals on what love is.
