I have lived close to many of the images in my work. The range of densely forested low mountains of the Teutoburger Wald in Germany, where I spent much of my youth exploring, was a place in which I could escape into isolation. Working within painting, I’m interested in building a practice based on exploration and heightened natural surroundings that have a sense of dark ambience. The bleak and strange lands I create are filled with transcendent scenes of remoteness, depictions of modernism and peculiar happenings, all with the occasional allusion to the romantic landscape painting tradition.
