Kay van Bellen
“Drawing was the first thing I discovered and enjoyed exploring at an early ageâ€
Â
Kay van-Bellen grew up in a small Yorkshire town in England. Â
Her recent screen prints pay homage to the little people in her life. Borrowed from nature; shapes, figures and animals begin to tell an enchanting story and entice the viewer’s imagination.
Â
Inspired by her background in fashion and textiles, Kay’s quirky, graphic style which she describes as ‘playful and restless’ has led to commissions for Converse, Boots plc, British Telecom and Pizza Express.
Â
Her work explores traditional drawing processes such as monoprint, cut paper stencils and collage. Ideas start life as a tiny seed and grow and develop on the print table.
Â
“I am interested in the play of compositional elements through the quirky overlay of image, texture and patternâ€
