Keith Shore

Kelly Lynn Jones interviews Keith Shore
Mr. Keith Shore, we met via ichat a couple years ago, and then in person when you came out to LA for your Lab101 show. We had some good times, drinks at the Short Stop and the Red Lion. I think we were going to work on a zine together at one point, but I am not sure what happened to that.

Haha...oh life.....great memories. It was fun getting to hangout with u in LA. I had a blast out there. I love visiting LA. Someday we'll do that zine...well, actually...probably not. ha

Anyhoo, So how is Pennsylvania treating you? What do you love about your house?

Pennsylvania treats me well. I love that our house is on the historic register. It was built in 1862...so tons of character and a bonus is that we're in walking distance to boatloads of nice restaurants and bars.

Describe a typical day in the Shore household.

My days are usually filled up with design work but I always get some painting and drawing time and I play with my two cats a lot too.

I was looking at your newer work and have noticed your style is getting more painterly and has a little more realistic feel to it within your faces and your rendering. Is it something you consciously have been thinking about or just a natural progression in your work?

I've been enjoying working on a larger scale so I guess my work is losing a bit of its 'illustrative' ways and things become more 'painterly' or as I like to say 'mature.' haha

I have always loved your work. You have a distinct feel to your paintings where you know its a Keith Shore. I am specifically thinking of your portraits you have done in the past like the bearded ones, the line work on the beards and the chests are great. Are your people in your paintings sort of an image of yourself or just a hybrid of many people you know? Are you thinking of some sort of narrative in your head when creating each piece?

Wow. Thanks! U say such lovely things. - Most of the older portrait series I've done were more about the details (in their clothes or body hair) than an actual likeness to anyone I know. My current work is more true to life as the paintings are all influenced by photographs I've taken.

Currently what is someone or something that you are looking at that is reallymaking you excited about creating work?

im always looking for new work from Misaki Kawai, chris johanson, Eddie Martinez, Kim Dorland...

What is your favorite food right now?

I think its always sushi. Some fish, a little wasabi, and a cold Asahi or Sapporo and im a happy dood.

One last thing, Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Oh - much thanks K Lynn. Very siked! She's a lucky girl. haha

Thank you Keith for being part of Little Paper Press with your limited edition print.

Always a true pleasure being involved with LPP. Thanks for having me!!!
